This spot might just be the alcoholic epicenter of San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. In front, you've got Tosca, a bar with a classic old-school Italian appeal. The artsy Vesuvio, a legendary beat watering hole, is a short stagger across the street. And down at the end of this alley lies the incorrigible Specs, a legendary dive bar, for which Saroyan's "The Time Of Your Life" was an inspiration. The Chronicle has a great back story.
